COVID-19 Industry Changes

It’s been several months since adjusting to the new normal with Coronavirus. But the real estate industry has not slowed down and adjustments have been made to continue “business as usual”, or as close to usual as it can be. And most importantly as safe as possible.

Covid-19 has significantly changed day to day business for many industries and the home inspections industry is no exception. Services like home inspections by their very nature cannot be relegated to the world of video conferencing. Since home inspections are major contract contingencies when buying a home, these services still need to be completed by contract deadlines. Deadlines still need to be met or fines can occur.

The industry has made some slight changes in order to be viable. Home owners are weary about people being in their home’s, the risk of infection and potential exposure of loved ones, young and old. Home inspectors have done the following to reassure clients that their inspections can be done safely:

  • Wearing new PPE

  • Use of hand sanitizer and/or gloves

  • Wearing booties

  • Recaps and reviews of the home inspection are done socially distanced and outside when possible.

  • Performing inspection without clients and/or remaining 6ft from clients during home inspection

  • Wiping down equipment with anti-bacterial cleaner

In a few ways, even with the corona virus, it’s business as usual. Home inspectors have always taken precautions before entering someone’s home, including staying at home if they were sick, general hygiene of washing hands and making sure to wear gloves when doing an inspection. Inspections still take about the same amount of time and reports are published in the same amount of time.
